About Sunita

My roommate in college, Vanessa, once summed up our eating habits perfectly by stating that she wanted something to eat, not because she was hungry, not because what she was eating tasted good, but just because she needed something in her mouth.  I think if this comment did not have racy undertones, I would probably use it as my answer to the "Tell us one interesting fact about yourself" question, because it captures my state of mind about 60% of the time.

Even though she now lives in Australia and I am here in San Francisco and I miss her a lot, I know that she is probably stuffing her face with a bacon-wrapped hot dog and that makes me happy.

A few years ago, my friend Sam watched me inhale a King Koopa from Ike's Sandwiches and whispered to his boyfriend that I should start a blog that lists out in detail what I eat everyday because it would be a truly amazing read.  They laughed for a while and then finally told me what they were laughing about, and so here it is!

I won't actually list out what I eat everyday because only Sam and maybe my parents would care.  Instead, I will use it to document the restaurants and bars in San Francisco and elsewhere I have visited and document my somewhat frequent and amateur forays into cooking.  Aside from wanting to provide entertainment for Sam and my parents, I want to show how powerful food can be: it is always a relevant topic, it connects us to our environment, and most importantly, it connects us to other people.

In the meantime, just for Sam and my parents, today I had: a tomato, flax seed oatmeal, a salami sandwich, an Arnold Palmer, a bag of Blazin' Buffalo and Ranch doritos, a zucchini, another Arnold Palmer, spaghetti and meatballs, a peach, and a chocolate donut.
